EV Charging Platform
for a Network Operator
We built a full back-office charging platform for a charge point operator, covering session management, user administration, pricing configuration, OCPI interoperability, and fraud prevention, delivered in under three months on a fixed price.
The challenge
Running a charging network involves far more operational complexity than placing hardware in the ground. The client, a charge point operator managing a growing network of EV charging stations, needed a platform that gave them full visibility and control over their infrastructure: sessions in progress, user accounts, revenue flows, hardware status, and pricing rules.
Off-the-shelf white-label solutions either lacked the customisation the operator needed to run their business their way, or came with per-session licensing costs that would erode margins at scale. The decision was made to build a proprietary platform, one they owned outright and could evolve without dependency on a third-party roadmap.
What we built
We delivered a web-based operator platform built on ABP.io, running on Azure Cloud with a .NET backend and Angular frontend. The platform covers the full operational lifecycle of a charging network, from the moment a driver initiates a session through to revenue reconciliation and reporting.
OCPI compliance and network interoperability
A privately operated charging network that cannot be discovered or used by drivers on other networks is commercially limited. We implemented OCPI, the Open Charge Point Interface standard, enabling the operator to establish roaming agreements with other charging networks and e-mobility service providers. This means a driver subscribed to a partner network can use the client's chargers seamlessly, and vice versa, significantly expanding the effective user base without additional infrastructure investment.
Pricing flexibility built for real operations
Charging operators need to price differently by location, time of day, user segment, and energy demand, and they need to adjust pricing without engineering involvement. We built a tariff configuration engine that lets the operator define and modify pricing rules through the platform UI. Time-of-use rates, flat session fees, per-kWh billing, and promotional pricing can all be configured independently per location or across the network.
The platform also integrates with Behaviour Bridge, our dynamic pricing product for EV charging, for operators who want AI-driven margin optimisation on top of the base tariff engine.
Technology
The platform is built on ABP.io, which provided multi-tenancy architecture, authentication, audit logging, and module structure from day one. The backend runs on .NET with an Angular frontend, deployed on Azure Cloud for scalability and reliability. The fixed-price engagement was scoped and delivered in under three months, with a 30-day post-launch warranty.
